Another second Place

2/28/2010

Time for the last winter race, the start was located in Sundsvall 380 km north off Stockholm and unusual this race was on a Sunday.

We went off Saturday lunch Micke, Ingmar, Robin and I, the goal was to catch up and inspect before 19.00 to avoid going up and do it on Sunday morning an do it, would be nice to sleep an hour extra.

Once there, when we should unload the car off the trailer the starter broke down (what the hell do we do now?) Okay we can go the rally without the starter but if we do, we can’t turn off the car and something can happens on the stage, I can do a mistake?

I called Saab guru and tough competitor Fredrik Ekendahl who might have a starter with him? He had not but he forwarded me to Stefan Segerljung who lent me one, it's nice when one's toughest competitors lend spare parts. Now time to sleep up at 07,00 and down to OK/Q8 do it yourself station. We handle the change of the starter without problems, so now were in again.

We went out last in our class again whit star number 16, I wonder if this was the last time we was first seeded in our class? I have to start win again, otherwise next time Jonas Gustafsson has taken the spot away from us?

SS1. 11km long fast undulating stage we started well but I thought it was tough, it was mud on the road after a night snowfall, but it turned out that everyone probably thought the same thing except Jonas  who won the stage with 12 seconds before me, third Stefan Segerljung was another 14 seconds behind me. The service after SS1 went smoothly only gasoline and cleaning window. Then on to SS2 9,5 kilometer long stage, not so fast as the first one, the stage went good and we was second again 10 seconds after Jonas but 17 before Stefan. Fast forward to SS3 no service here between, Jonas was the fastest again on SS3 10 seconds ahead of me but now Håkan Lidebjer took third time 7 seconds after me.

Now it was time for service again no problem just routine inspection. We could now run the same three first stage ones again, and I hope the road could be much better the second time and I hope the worst mud was gone and it would go a little easier and give a better grip. On the way out I thought it getting heavy and we have a puncture on the right front tire. Now it’s was harry, up whit the jack and gone whit the broken wheel and on whit the reserve and away, good team work between Robin and me. We get to the stage without transportation dots.

On the stage we were 25 seconds faster now than the first time, but we was 1 second after Jonas anyway, Håkan was third 19 sec after me, SS5 and SS6 was no difference Jonas first and I runner-up.

Jonas Gustavsson now won 52 seconds ahead of me and third was Stefan Segerljung 1 min and 23 sec behind me, now we look forward to the summer season starting in Kristianstad in late April, then we will try to replace the second place to first, but first wait a gearbox renovation an paint same fenders and a big routine check.
